Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko will lock horns at the Accra Sports Stadium on Match Week 6 of the Ghana Premier League.
Maxwell Konadu and Edwin Nii Odum are going to face each other for the first time as coaches of Asante Kotoko and Hearts respectively. The two coaches are poised to give supporters a thrilling game to establish dominance in the League.
The two have played 5 games since the start of the 2019/20 Premier League season but they seem to be struggling.
Hearts of Oak have won 2 games, lost 2 and one has ended in a draw. They have also conceded 6 goals so far and have scored 4. In their last game against Liberty Professionals, they came from a goal down to win the game with 6 minutes left.
Kotoko, on the other hand, have won 3 and lost 2 out of 5 games they have played. They have conceded 3 goals and have scored six goals so far.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with 3news.com, Hearts’ coach Nii Odum said his players understand his style of play and will get a win for the fans.
“They are playing what I’ve told them to play and we are going the same way and we are not stepping back.
“The fans came to Sogakope in their numbers and last Sunday was marvelous and I think that it’s pushing the team. So the only thing the players and I want is to give the supporters a win and nothing else.”
Dating back to 1958, the two teams have met 106 times with Hearts of Oak winning 35 times and Kotoko winning 33 times. They have shared the points on 38 occasions.
Accra Hearts of Oak will be playing at home at the Accra Sports Stadium. Since 1958, including the 1-0 win at Cape Coast in 2006, the rivals have met at the Accra Sports Stadium 55 times with the two claiming victory 16 times each. This match will decide who will have the upper hand in terms of wins at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Asante Kotoko sit in the seventh position on the table with Hearts below them at ninth.
Premier league leaders Berekum Chelsea will host second placed Aduana Stars at the Golden City Pack on Saturday. The Blues remain the only team yet to lose and concede a goal and will be hoping to extend their unbeaten run. On their way to the top, they have beaten Kotoko, Hearts and Ashanti Gold.
Aduana seemed to have found their feet in their previous game against Legon Cities after suffering a surprise defeat to Eleven Wonders. Aduana Stars have kept 3 clean sheets out 5 games and may be looking to leave Sunyani with three points and their fourth clean sheet. They harbour the leading goal scorer, Yahaya Mohammed, who has six goals to his name.
This game promises to be an exciting Brong Ahafo Derby.
Medeama’s unbeaten run came to an end on Match Week 5 when Dreams FC beat them by a lone goal. The Pride of the West have scored 8 goals and have conceded 3. On Match week 6, they will welcome Ashanti Gold who until they met Berekum Chelsea were unbeaten.
Medeama is third on the league table whilst Ashanti Gold is fourth.
