Ten individuals including four officers of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) are in custody in connection with the recent trafficking of narcotics out of Ghana’s ports.
This was disclosed during an urgent meeting chaired by President John Dramani Mahama with security chiefs.
At the said meeting, the President received a detailed briefing on investigations into the trafficking cases.
According to the briefing, the ten suspects remain in custody as investigations into the matter continue.
Their arrest forms part of a broader probe into how the drugs were trafficked through the country’s port systems.
The meeting went on to review the existing security structures at Ghana’s ports and recommended new measures to strengthen oversight and prevent similar occurrences.
In response, President Mahama directed the formation of an inter-agency task force to draw up a comprehensive roadmap on measures to curb drug trafficking through Ghana’s borders, with a two-week deadline set for the presentation of the roadmap.
