UBA National Essay competition produces first graduate

Dorcas Nuku Darko graduated with a Second Class Upper degree

It was all smile as Dorcas Nuku Darko, the second runner-up for the 2014 UBA Foundation’s National Essay Competition, graduated with Second Class Upper from  the University of Ghana, Legon on Friday November 15, 2019.

Dorcas participated in the maiden edition of the UBA Foundation’s National Essay Competition in 2014 as a student of Keta Senior High Technical School.

She emerged the second runner-up and was awarded a scholarship to support her tertiary education.

Dorcas, a graduate of Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Information Studies at the University of Ghana, Legon, was full of praise for UBA and could not hide her excitement at the possibility of completing her first degree.

She advised other students to take such opportunities seriously.

“I am overwhelmed and excited at the opportunity UBA Foundation gave me and I will like to advice all students to participate in the competition when they see the call for entries for am a living proof,” she said.

Ms. Dorcas Darko further paid a courtesy call to the United Bank for Africa (Ghana) Limited’s (UBA Ghana) Head Office on Thursday, November 21, 2019 to express he profound gratitude for the Bank’s support which enabled her complete her tertiary education.

The Managing Director and CEO of UBA Ghana, Isong Udom, said a success story like Dorcas Darko demonstrates the commitment of the Bank to support education through interventions like National Essay Competition to set the agenda for the transformation of Africa through her youth.

“United Bank for Africa believes in Africa and her youth, we intend to sustain the programme to see many more promising Ghanaians attain higher education,” he said.

Mr. Udom disclosed that this year’s entries for the National Essay Competition entries has set a record high with double the entries received year after year since its inception.

The 10 finalist will be announced soon after the marking is done. He also disclosed that the Winner will have $5000, 1st Runner UP $3000 and 2nd Runner Up $2000. All 10 finalists will receive a laptop and several gift items.
