Dancehall artiste, Stonebwoy has rendered an unqualified apology to Ghanaians and organizers of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards for his actions during the 20th edition of the awards.

The award winning artiste pulled out a gun in the early hours of Sunday, May 19 while on stage to receive his award as the Raggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year.

Stonebwoy who was just about delivering an acceptance speech after receiving his award was seen advancing towards the edge of the stage with a gun in hand when his long standing rival Shatta Wale and his team were making their way to the stage.

The incident caused a scuffle between team members of the two artistes, causing the awards show to halt temporarily.

The two, Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy have subsequently been invited for questioning by the Accra regional police command.

It is on the back of this incident that the dancehall artiste has issued a press statement apologising for his actions on the night.

In the statement dated May 19, 2019 and singed by Livingston E Satekla (Stonebwoy), he expressed regret for his action, stating that regardless of the level of provocation, he should not have reacted the way he did.

“I would like to extend my sincerest apologies and deepest regrets for the part my conduct played at what should have been the biggest celebration of Ghanaian music last night.”

He however noted that there has been attacks against his family and team, hence his reaction on the night.

“In seeking to entertain  Ghanaians, I have been a victim of incessant vilification and physical attacks in recent times.

“My own dear wife has in the past suffered knife attack at a concert – an attack that had been meant for me, and which resulted in her being rushed to the hospital. This for me has been quite alarming with regards to my security, ” Stonebwoy explained.

Stonebwoy said he is taking measures, security wise, to ensure no such incident occurs ever again.

He also apologised to sponsors of the show, Vodafone and organizers Charterhouse for bringing their brands into disrepute.

According to him, he remains committed to raising high the flag of Ghana in whatever capacity he finds himself.

He charged his fans and all Ghanaians to exercise restraint and ensure peace prevails in all things.
