The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts has named acclaimed Ghanaian musician Wiyaala as Ghana’s Global Ambassador for Fugu during a colourful ceremony held in Funsi in the Upper West Region.
Speaking at the event, Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts Minister Abla Dzifa Gomashie praised the singer for her longstanding commitment to promoting Ghanaian culture through her music, fashion and stage performances.
The Minister described Wiyaala as a symbol of resilience, hope and national pride, adding that her influence and global recognition made her a fitting choice to champion Fugu, a traditional handwoven fabric associated with northern Ghana.
She stressed the importance of supporting made-in-Ghana products and preserving indigenous cultural heritage. According to her, every piece of Fugu reflects Ghana’s identity, creativity and resilience while creating livelihoods for local weavers, designers and entrepreneurs.
The appointment forms part of broader efforts by the Ministry to promote Ghanaian cultural products and strengthen the country’s creative arts and tourism industries.
Receiving the honour, Wiyaala expressed appreciation for the recognition and pledged to use her new role to project Ghanaian culture and heritage on the international stage.
She said she remained committed to showcasing the beauty of Ghanaian traditions through fashion, music and cultural advocacy while inspiring younger generations to embrace locally made products and cultural identity.
