Addressing Ghanaian workers on Wednesday at the Black Star Square in Accra on May Day, the President said the country is still in the making, 62 years after independence.
“Our nation, and Ghana at 62 remains a work very much in progress and lots of things remain to be done to improve upon the quality of our lives in all three stages”, he said, defining the three stages as: the pre-working stage, the working stage and pension.
The President observed the country has since independence continued to battle with debt and continues to rely on borrowing for infrastructural projects.
“In 62 years, we have not manged ourselves to be able to have the money to deal with the deficit in our infrastructural development without borrowing money”, he said.
The president charged workers across the country to give off their best in their various places of work while emphasizing the need for them to cooperate with the government to build a better nation.
He acknowledged that as managers of the economy, the government and its leadership are also workers who are working assiduously to grow an economy that will benefit all Ghanaians.
