Rising Sun Montessori School tops 2018 BECE

The Rising Sun Montessori School, situated at Dome within the Ga East Municipality in the Greater Accra region, has been adjudged the overall best school in the 2018 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) within the municipality. The school, though started its operations in the area in 2013, stood above over 200 other schools for the crown in the municipality. Information indicates that all the 19 students registered for the examination made a record that has never been witnessed in the municipality for a decade. The school, based on its incredible performance, was rewarded at the 62nd Independence Day anniversary celebration in the assembly by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) officer, Janet Tulasi Mensah. Expressing her joy over the news, Head of the school, Victoria Otieku, attributed the success to high discipline on the side of teachers, parents as well as students. “We put the children under some kind of pressure and that led to the successes in the examination,” the head of the school stated. She was optimistic the success would go a long way to throw a bigger challenge to the school in the subsequent examinations. Telling a brief history about the school, Mrs. Otieku said the school started with its Dome branch in 2013 with the main aim of instilling quality education within children in the community and the region at large. Discipline, she said, is the hallmark of the school and noted it has yielded positive results for the institute since its inception. She also said the school can boast of conducive learning environment with the necessary teaching and learning materials that can hardly be found in many other schools across the country. “Transforming children by offering them opportunity to apply knowledge skills through practice among other things are what we are up to,” Mrs. Otieku hinted. The Head of the School said the main aim of establishing the institution was not just to make money but also to nurture children into responsible adults.
