Businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome will have some property of his sold to pay debt owed the state.
The Supreme Court gave the order on Thursday, June 27 after Mr Woyome failed to pay all the GH¢51.2 million debt ordered in 2014 to be paid.
He has only paid GH¢14 million after five years, it emerged in court.
The Attorney General’s Department has therefore been given the greenlight to sell two houses of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) sympathizer at Trassaco Estate, one house at Kpehe, a stone quarry as well as plants and equipment at the quarry to defray the remainder of the debt.
However, that may not be enough.
According to a Deputy Attorney-General, Godfred Yeboah Dame, a total of GH¢20 million will be realized from the sale.
Speaking to journalists after Thursday’s ruling, Mr Yeboah Dame said it emerged in court that Mr Woyome had colluded with UT Bank over some of his property just to avoid the satisfaction of judgement debt.
Presiding judge Justice Anthony Alfred Benin, therefore, awarded a cost of GH¢60,000 against defunct UT Bank and Mr Woyome’s Anator Holdings Limited.
The Deputy Attorney General hinted that the state will prefer criminal charges against Mr Woyome for such deception.
“And a court having so found that [Alfred] Woyome attempted to collude with a bank to prevent an execution of judgement against him is an act that the state can take him on in terms of criminal prosecution and what have you.
“Clearly, it is something that I will consider prosecuting him for crime.”
