Black Stars Head Coach Carlos Queiroz has named a 24-man squad for the upcoming qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Ghana will travel to Bouaké to play three-time African champions La Cote d’Ivoire on Thursday, September 24 in the first of two qualifiers.
They will return home to play The Gambia on Tuesday, September 29 before travelling to Morocco to play the Atlas Lions in a friendly encounter on Sunday, October 4.
Playing his first games in charge of the Black Stars against African opposition, Queiroz has a boost with the return of Tottenham Hotspur’s Mohammed Kudus and Spartak Moscow’s Alexander Djiku.
The two were left out of the World Cup due to injury.
Djiku’s replacement at the North African tournament, Derrick Luckassen, keeps his place in the latest team.
The Portuguese has handed a maiden call-up to New York Red Bull’s midfielder Ronald Donkor.
Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, who was the only locally-based player in that World Cup squad, occupies that enviable position in the latest squad.
Coventry City marksman Brandon Thomas-Asante and AlShabab star Thomas Teye Partey are among the notable absentees.
Thomas-Asante’s clubmate, Caleb Yirenkyi, however, made the squad, having cemented his place throughout the World Cup, capping his performance with one of the two goals for the team.
