Daniel Asiedu, the prime suspect in the murder of the former Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North Constituency, Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu, has been declared mentally sound to face trial.
A psychiatric examination conducted on Asiedu, 22, proved so.
The psychiatric examination was ordered by the Accra High Court on April 14, 2019 following a prayer by Asiedu’s lawyer, Augustine Obour.
Lawyer Obour had argued that he believed his client was not mentally sound.
Asiedu had fingered elements in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for contracting him to kill the then lawmaker.

Through his lawyers, he threatened to head to the International Criminal Court (ICC) for adjudication as he claims he does not trust the justice system in Ghana.
At hearing on Thursday, June 27, a consultant psychiatrist at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital, Dr Sammy Ohene, presented his report to the Court. The report showed that Asiedu was mentally fit.
The report, which was read by the presiding judge, Justice George Buadi, revealed that Dr Ohene conducted four psychiatric examinations on Asiedu.
“All the four thorough psychiatric examination did not show any sign of mental disorder,” the report stated.
Justice Buadi, as a result, ordered trial to commence.
Asiedu was arrested for stabbing JB Danquah-Adu to death on February 6, 2016 at his Shiashie residence.
He has pleaded not guilty to three counts of conspiracy to commit robbery, robbery and murder.
A second accused, Vincent Bosso, has also pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery.
