Two journalists with the media conglomerate Media General and another, a veteran who corresponded with TV3, have picked awards at the maiden Central Region Ghana Journalists Association Awards.
First awardee Spencer Kwabena Boateng Mensah picked an award for the Best Feature in Tourism and Culture with his story on ‘The Heroes of Our Time’ and Best in News Reporting-Electronic on a report that highlighted the plight of the disabled titled ‘Journey to the West’.
The Best in Feature was awarded to one of the only two ladies, Adwoa Adobea Owusu, for her story on the life of a drug addict.
Veteran broadcaster Paul Adjetey Dzane, who worked as the Central Region correspondent for TV3, was honoured for his immeasurable role in contributing to the growth and development of journalists in the Central Region.
A special award was also given to DSP Daniel Machator for his writings on crime, health and security which have helped develop the Ankaful prisons and prison life in general.
Forty-eight entries were received for these awards with only 10 shortlisted.
The event, which was held on the theme ‘The Economic Transformation of the Central Region: Media’s Stake in Attracting Investors’, also saw other deserving media practitioners and organisations in the Region pick awards for their works.
Some of the award winners were Afedzi Abdullah, Joojo Amissah, Samuel Alfred Amoh, Timothy Gobah, Mary Ama Bawa and Isaac Arkoh with one of the regional correspondents of Daily Graphic crowned as the Most Promising Journalist.
