A head-on collision has left five persons dead and eleven others injured at Akyem Nsutam in the Eastern Region.

Driver of a Sprinter mini bus travelling from Kumasi to Accra was said to be overtaking vehicles ahead of him but ran into a fully loaded cement truck on the Accra-Kumasi highway Sunday morning.

Passengers on board the Sprinter bus registered AW 221-14 were trapped in the mangled vehicle and took the intervention of the personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service from Kyebi to rescue them and remove the bodies of the deceased. The injured were then rushed to various health facilities within the Akyem Nsutam area while the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the kyebi Government Hospital morgue.

The accident caused gridlock on the highway but the MTTD personnel from Kyebi responded in time to clear the major highway for free flow of traffic.

Eyewitnesses account blamed the driver of the Sprinter bus for the accident.
