The Government of the People’s Republic of China has through its Ministry of Commerce sponsored the training of 20 Ghanaians drawn from the Ministry of Energy, its agencies and students on a 21-day seminar on Development and Management of Oil and Gas for Ghana.

The training seminar organized by the Jiangxi College of Foreign Studies in China is to enhance the knowledge of the participants in oil and gas and its related activities.

At the opening of the seminar at the Yao Lake Pearl Hotel at Nanchang in the Jiangxi Province in China, the Director of the Foreign Economic Cooperation Division at the Department of Commerce of Jiangxi Province, Ms. Huang Xueqin, spoke of the strong China-Ghana relationship and stressed that China has always regarded Ghana as a good friend “that can be trusted and also a good partner for common development”.

“Ghana is one of the first countries in sub-Saharan Africa to establish diplomatic relations with China….Since the establishment of diplomatic ties 59 years ago, the traditional friendship between China and Ghana has grown stronger with fruitful practical cooperation.”

She explained that the training seminar in Jiangxi is ample testimony of how the Government of Ghana attaches great importance to China’s development experience, model and attention to economic and social development of the Jiangxi Province.

As part of efforts to further strengthen the relationship between Ghana and China, Ms. Xueqin revealed that efforts are underway to realize the “two centenary goals” and the Chinese dream of national rejuvenation.

“China is ready to take on the Beijing Summit on China-Africa Cooperation and Ghana’s participation in the One Belt and One Road Initiative as another opportunity to continue to deepen and expand cooperation in various fields and push for new and greater development of China-Ghana relations”.

Ms. Xueqin assured that the Jiangxi College of Foreign Studies has put in place the necessary arrangements to ensure that the participants get a deeper understanding of the new development concept from the Chinese experience and model.

On his part, the leader of the Ghana delegation and Head of Petroleum Downstream Distribution and Marketing at the Ministry of Energy, Obed Kraine Boachie, applauded the Government of the People’s Republic of China for sponsoring the seminar.

“China is one of the largest extractive economy in the world. And the technology China has deplored and uses in the sector is unmatched. And [Ghana] can learn a lot in terms of using the right technology in the exploitation and subsequent production and also how to manage the sector to our advantage. And seminars like this one is a good platform to acquire such knowledge.”

He added that developing countries share and face the challenge in the exploitation, production and management of its natural resources “therefore it is important that we learn from other mineral rich countries that have been able to escape the ‘resource curse’”.

Vice Presidents, Professors and Associate Professors from the Jiangxi College of Foreign Studies, East China University of Technology, Renmin University of China, Yangtze University and the China Affairs University will be taking the participants through various areas in the development and management of oil and gas.

Some of the areas that will be studied include Development and Production of Unconventional Petroleum and Natural Gas, the Belt and Road Initiative, Sedimentology of Clastic Petroleum and Reservoir, Advances of EM Sounding Researches, Reservoir Integrated Evaluation from Well Logs in Complex Areas, Seismic Exploration and its Application and Development in Oil and Gas Exploration and Development of Oil and Gas in Deepwater.

There will also be field trips to East China University and Technology, laboratories in Yangtze University, Nanchang Liquified Petroleum Gas Company Limited and to Jiujiang, Wuhan, Qianjiang, Jingzhou and Shangai.

The seminar on Development and Management of Oil and Gas for Ghana opened on October 28, 2019 and will close on November 17, 2019.

In attendance at the opening ceremony was the Vice President of the Jiangxi College of Foreign Studies, LIU Quanhui, Director of Training Center of Jiangxi College of Foreign Studies and course coordinators.
