The Upper West Regional Minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin Saalih says said a committee will be set up to investigate the death of a 2-year-old boy who died of snake bite after he was allegedly left unattended to by hospital workers at the Upper West Regional Hospital.
The minister assured punitive actions will be taken against persons found culpable of causing the death of the boy.
Dr. Bin Saalih also called on the media in the Upper West Region to select one journalist to be part of the committee in order to play a watch dog role on the committee.
The minister said this during the maiden edition of the District ‘Meet the Press’ series in Nandom.
“[On Tuesday] I’m going to constitute a committee to investigate this matter…if it is indeed true that it was out of negligence that the young guy lost his life, punitive actions will be taken. ”
The 2-year-old boy, Ibrahim Shahid died of snake bite after he was allegedly refused treatment at the Upper West Regional Hospital due to lack of a folder when he was referred to the hospital from the Boli CHPS compound in the Wa Municipality on Saturday, November 9. He died four hours after he arrived at the hospital.

Hospital authorities when contacted by 3news.com on Sunday morning indicated they were not aware of the development and has since promised to investigate the matter.
Pending their internal investigation, the regional minister Dr. Hafiz Bin Saalih called for an independent probe into the matter.
