One of the aspirants contesting the Yendi constituency parliamentary primary of the New Patriotic Party, Farouk Aliu Mahama, has admonished his contenders to consolidate Dagbon peace by running a peaceful campaign.
He noted the peace of Dagbon is bigger than their individual interest, hence the need to preserve it.
Farouk, who is the son of the late former Vice President Aliu Mahama, filed his nomination forms Wednesday to contest two others, Osman Baba Daney and Abibata Shanni Mahama, who are also seeking the ticket of the NPP to represent the people of Yendi in parliament.
The filing was characterized by a colourful display of love for the aspirant as hundreds of supporters thronged the streets of Yendi.
Mr Aliu Mahama called for unity among the aspirants and the entire membership of the party.
“The NPP government under President Akufo-Addo together with traditional authorities brought back peace to Dagbon and as politicians, we have the responsibility to consolidate the peace” he underscored.
He applauded the incumbent MP, Habib Tijani, for his leadership traits and promised to retain the seat for the NPP in the December 2020 general elections.
Receiving the forms on behalf of the election committee, the Yendi Constituency secretary, Zakaria Shaibu, called for unity before, during and after the primaries.
