One of the persons who contracted the deadly coronavirus in Ghana is in critical condition, the Ghana Health Service has announced.
Ghana has recorded 132 confirmed cases as at Thursday, March 26 with three deaths and one recovery.
Health officials say 127 of persons with the coronavirus who are on admission at isolation centres are responding to treatment.
As more Ghanaians who arrived in the country from last Sunday and mandatorily quarantined test positive for the virus, government has directed that all persons who entered the country from March 3 be traced and tested for the virus.
“The Ghana Immigration Service, working with the Ministry of Communication, and their agencies has a whole data base of all those who came in,” Information Minister Oppong Nkrumah said on Thursday.
Confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Ghana nearly doubled within 24 hours on Thursday, bringing the national tally to 132.
From a low steady rise in the beginning, the country has in the last week begun to record daily spikes in the number of confirmed cases, heightening fears of more confirmed cases as some of the over 1000 Ghanaians currently under mandatory quarantine begin to test positive for the virus.
Sixty-four new cases were confirmed Thursday of which the Ghana Health Service said 40 of them formed part of those under mandatory quarantine.
Most of the confirmed cases are Ghanaians who authorities say returned into the country from international trips to affected countries.
The number of foreigners who have contracted the disease still remains seven. They are from Norway, Lebanon, China, Netherlands, and the United Kingdom (UK).
“The number of confirmed cases among travelers under mandatory quarantine who have been tested is 78,” the Ghana Health Service indicated.
On contact tracing, it said a total of 970 contacts have been identified and are being tracked.
“Out of these, 204 have completed the 14 days mandatory follow up,” it added.
