A total of 2,070 patients have recovered from the coronavirus disease in Ghana, as per the latest update given by the Ghana Health Service (GHS).

Released on Monday, May 25, the update sees the total case count rise to 6,808.

No new deaths were recorded, keeping the number at 32 so far.

This leaves the country’s active cases under management at 4,706.

Out of these active cases, 15 are said to be severe though none of them is on a ventilator.

Four of these critically ill patients are at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC), three each are at the Ga East Municipal Hospital, the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital while one each is at the 37 Military Hospital and the Ho Regional Hospital.

Ghana first recorded its index cases of the viral disease on Thursday, March 12.

Since then several measures have been put in place to slow its spread.

Despite a three-week partial lockdown in the country and a ban on social gathering, the cases kept rising.

The country’s borders were also shut to human traffic on Sunday, March 22 while schools, churches, mosques and drinking bars were all closed.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo recently hinted at easing some of the restrictions when they elapse at the end of May.

Regional breakdown

The Greater Accra Region continues to lead the regional breakdown as cases hit 4,836 after 38 cases were recorded on Saturday.

Thirteen cases from the Ashanti Region sees the second-most hit region reach 1,062 in its total case count.

Central Region’s stands at 306 while Western Region’s cases have soared from 210 to 277 after recording the highest number in the latest update.

Aside Western North Region recording one case, the rest did not record any cases.

Savannah Region recorded its first case over the weekend.
