Building a national cathedral is “senseless” – Mr. Vegas

World-renowned Jamaican reggae and dancehall musician known for his popular song ‘Tamale’, Mr. Vegas has chastised President Akufo-Addo for his keenness to build a cathedral for God.

President Akufo-Addo on March 5, this year, cut sod for the construction of the proposed national cathedral in Accra.

The President explained that “There are some people who still ask some questions about why a national cathedral? I will give three reasons: … since gaining our freedom and independence from the British colonial power nearly 63 years ago in 1957, Ghana has been spared civil war, famine, and epidemics.”

Mr. Vegas, speaking in an interview with Blakk Kobby on 3FM on the Reggae Vibes Show, said it doesn’t make sense to build a national cathedral to worship God while children are still sitting on the floor to study in schools.

He was of the view that, the President should focus on renovating the slave dungeons, building hospitals and schools were the children can go and learn science and mathematics stressing that they are the things Africans are yearning for.

In admonishing African leaders, the outspoken Mr. Vegas made reference to the Egyptian pyramids which he said was built on science and technology.

He feels COVID-19 has come at a point where Africa leaders must build on science and mathematics like the Chinese are doing and not depend on the superpowers for aids to develop.

“It is time for our African leaders to start leading a united front where all boarders that divide us as Africans must be closed. Africa must have a universal language that we can teach our children,” Mr. Vegas, born Clifford Smith, suggested.

Mr. Vegas is currently in the US where he spoke to Blakk Kobby via telephone on Saturday.

The awarding-winning reggae show is live on 3FM 92.7 every Saturday between 4pm-6pm.
