Political Science Professor Ransford Yaw Gyampo and his University of Ghana colleague, Dr George Domfeh, have patched up less than a week after an altercation in the studios of TV3.
The two were empanelled on the station’s weekend current affairs analysis show The Keypoints but discussions got heated, degenerating to near fisticuffs.
The two had to be restrained by other guests in the heat of the altercation on Saturday, November 15.
Prof Gyampo later took legal action against Dr Domfeh, whose lawyers also wrote to Media General, the parent company of TV3, for a full release of the video materials on the disagreement. He had claimed the station had released a doctored tape to make him look like the aggressor.
However, on Thursday, November 20, Dr Domfeh indicated that he had a “long and cordial” phone conversation with “my brother and colleague”.
“Professor Gyampo acknowledged that he regrets his commentary against my person which was distasteful and defamatory especially considering our longstanding collegial relationship,” Dr Domfeh wrote on Facebook.
“I, in turn, admitted that I went so hard with my comments about his person in response to his position on my commentary,we have sincerely apologized to each other.”
He added: “We have mutually agreed to put this episode behind us and to move forward with renewed respect for each other.
“As public intellectuals, we remain committed to engaging in serious national discourse without allowing disagreements to degenerate into personal animosity.”
He urged families, friends and supporters to “respect this mutual understanding and to continue to support us in our professional contributions to national development”.
Meanwhile, Prof Gyampo has confirmed the patch-up, noting that “I didn’t defame or attack anybody but apology accepted”.
“Please please please, let’s let go. He’s still my brother,” he wrote.
