Ghana has endorsed former U.S. President Donald J. Trump’s proposed peace framework for ending the war between Russia and Ukraine, describing the plan as a timely effort to halt a conflict that continues to strain global security and humanitarian conditions.
In a statement issued Sunday, the government said it “reaffirms its unwavering commitment to global peace, stability and principles of international cooperation,” adding that Trump’s proposal offers a platform rooted in dialogue, respect and de-escalation. The details of the peace plan have not been disclosed publicly, but Ghana said any initiative that pushes the warring parties toward negotiations deserves attention.
Officials said the proposal’s emphasis on civilian protection, restoration of territorial integrity and the creation of conditions for long-term reconciliation aligns with Ghana’s own long-standing stance on international conflict resolution. Ghana, a major contributor to U.N. peacekeeping missions, has positioned itself as a consistent advocate for diplomatic solutions on the global stage.
“The Government of Ghana believes that constructive engagement is the only sustainable path forward,” the statement said, urging Moscow and Kyiv to “participate in negotiations in good faith and prioritize the welfare of their people above political differences.”
The government added that the conflict’s ripple effects—from disrupted food supply chains to broader geopolitical tensions—make a negotiated settlement urgent for both Europe and the international community.
Ghana also reiterated its readiness to work with regional blocs, international partners and multilateral organizations in support of any credible effort to help secure a ceasefire and a durable peace deal. The statement emphasized that stability in Eastern Europe remains critical to global economic recovery, security and development.
“Ghana remains committed to working alongside regional and global partners to ensure that peace, security and prosperity prevail in every part of the world,” the government said.
