A high-level delegation from the State of Palestine, led by Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Minister Dr. Varsen O.V. Aghabekian, has paid a courtesy call on Ghana’s First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Bernard Ahiafor, as part of efforts to deepen bilateral relations between the two countries.

The meeting, held at Parliament House in Accra, focused on strengthening diplomatic ties and reaffirming solidarity between Ghana and Palestine amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Dr. Aghabekian underscored Palestine’s long-standing struggle for independence and called for international support toward the recognition and sovereignty of the Palestinian state.

She expressed appreciation to President John Mahama for Ghana’s public position on the conflict, noting that peace in the region could only be achieved through justice and respect for international law. The Palestinian minister emphasized the importance of partnerships with countries such as Ghana in advancing diplomatic engagement and humanitarian advocacy.

Ahiafor welcomed the delegation on behalf of Parliament, describing the visit as a reflection of the enduring friendship between Ghana and Palestine. He said Ghana remains committed to strengthening its warm relations with the Palestinian people, citing historical bonds rooted in solidarity and mutual respect dating back to the era of Ghana’s first President, Kwame Nkrumah.

The First Deputy Speaker also highlighted Ghana’s recent humanitarian support to affected civilians, noting that 40 metric tons of Golden Tree cocoa products were dispatched as relief to communities facing hardship. He pointed to growing cooperation between the two nations in areas such as trade, investment and economic exchange.

Ahiafor further identified agriculture, agribusiness, construction, manufacturing and services as sectors with strong potential for expanded collaboration. He stressed the role of parliamentary diplomacy in advancing bilateral relations, adding that engagement between the respective legislatures would be key to sustaining cooperation and mutual understanding.

The meeting ended with a shared commitment to continued dialogue and collaboration between Ghana and the State of Palestine.
