The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has expressed condolences to the family of a deceased victim following a shooting incident at a mining site at Adelekezu in Ghana’s Western Region.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the ministry said it had taken note of an update from the Ghana Police Service on the incident and sympathized with the affected community, describing the event as unfortunate.
The ministry said investigations into the shooting are ongoing and are being led by the Ghana Police Service. It stressed its respect for the independence of the investigative process and urged residents and all stakeholders to remain calm and cooperate fully with security agencies to allow due process to take its course.
The statement reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to lawful mining operations, community safety and the promotion of peaceful coexistence between mining companies and host communities. Officials noted that maintaining harmony and adherence to the law remains central to the government’s approach to managing the extractive sector.
According to the ministry, any further engagement or public comment on the matter will be guided strictly by the outcome of the official police investigations.
