The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2025, commissioned and handed over six Toyota Coaster buses to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, fulfilling a pledge made to staff shortly after assuming office.

The presentation followed concerns raised during the minister’s first staff durbar, where officers highlighted transportation challenges that were affecting daily operations and staff welfare. In response, Ablakwa committed to addressing the issue as part of efforts to improve working conditions and strengthen the ministry’s operational efficiency.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the minister said the acquisition of the buses reflected his belief that leadership must be responsive to the practical needs of public servants and focused on delivering tangible results. He noted that the buses would facilitate official movements, reduce logistical constraints and enhance the overall effectiveness of the ministry’s work.

The six buses, all 2025-model Toyota Coasters with a seating capacity of 29 each, are expected to improve safety, convenience and morale among staff. Ablakwa emphasized that a well-supported workforce is essential for the effective execution of Ghana’s foreign policy and diplomatic engagements.

He commended the management of the ministry, particularly the Acting Chief Director, Ambassador Khadija Iddrisu, as well as the relevant directorates, for ensuring that the procurement process was carried out successfully and in line with approved procedures.

The buses were formally handed over to Ambassador Iddrisu on behalf of the ministry. The minister urged staff to ensure responsible use and proper maintenance of the vehicles to guarantee their long-term benefit to the institution.

Members of the Ministerial Advisory Board, management and staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were present at the ceremony, which underscored the administration’s focus on staff welfare as a key component of institutional efficiency and public service delivery.
