Police in Ghana’s Central Region have launched a targeted crackdown on criminal activities in the Senya Beraku enclave, arresting 13 suspects during an intelligence-led operation on Dec. 17, 2025.
The Central East Regional Police Command said officers moved simultaneously to three locations as part of efforts to disrupt suspected drug-related and other criminal operations. The first stop was Kukwado, a coastal community, where six suspects were arrested with substances suspected to be Indian hemp and other items.
At a second location , a yellow house near a cemetery the Police arrested four suspects, including a woman. Exhibits retrieved included dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, locally distilled gin known as “akpeteshie,” a 32-inch television set and assorted cigarette brands.
The team later proceeded to Awiaso, where three more suspects, including a female, were arrested. Items seized there included suspected Indian hemp, a toy gun, shisha, local gin and a game pot. Police said the hideouts used by the suspects were subsequently set ablaze.
Those arrested range in age from 19 to 57 and include Michael Essel, Frederick Koranteng, Daniel Essibu and Gladys Jackson, among others.
Police said all 13 suspects, along with the seized exhibits, are currently in custody assisting with investigations. The command reaffirmed its commitment to sustained intelligence-driven operations to curb crime and improve safety in communities across the region.
