The Government of Ghana has begun the 99th cycle of payments under the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme, with nationwide disbursement starting Monday, Dec. 22, 2025.

The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, announced the rollout at a press briefing, disclosing that GH¢139.33 million has been released for the current cycle. The funds will benefit about 350,580 households, covering an estimated 1.5 million people across the country.

Dr. Lartey described LEAP as a flagship social protection intervention and a key component of the government’s Reset Agenda, aimed at improving the living conditions of extremely poor and vulnerable households. She said the bi-monthly cash grants, which range from GH¢320 to GH¢530 depending on household size, are intended to help beneficiaries meet basic needs, particularly during the festive season.

According to the minister, Ministry of Finance has allocated GH¢1.1 billion to the LEAP programme, the highest budgetary allocation since its introduction. She said the increased funding would support the planned expansion of the programme to 400,000 households in 2026.

Dr. Lartey called on traditional authorities, faith-based organizations, civil society groups and development partners to support efforts to sustain and strengthen the programme. She commended staff of the ministry, the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development at the MMDA level, community focal persons, payment service providers, development partners and Members of Parliament for their continued support.

She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting the welfare of poor and vulnerable households nationwide.
