Police in Ghana’s Bono Region have arrested 54 suspects in a series of intelligence-led swoop operations targeting illegal drug activity and robbery hideouts, authorities said in a statement.
The operations, conducted by the Bono Regional Police Command, formed part of sustained efforts to curb drug peddling and usage and to dismantle criminal networks operating within communities across the region. The targeted exercise covered Abesim, Banda, Nkrankwanta, Odumase, Dumasua, Wenchi and Dormaa, areas police described as hotspots for criminal activity.
According to the Police, the arrests followed coordinated actions by the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate, supported by other operational personnel, aimed at restoring safety and public order ahead of the festive season.

The suspects, aged between 17 and 45, include both men and women. Police provided a list of all individuals arrested, noting that investigations are ongoing to establish the extent of their involvement in suspected criminal activities.
Items retrieved during the operations include quantities of tramadol, wrappers of dried leaves and seeds suspected to be Indian hemp, a green tricycle locally known as a “pragya,” six pairs of scissors, a small crusher, boxes of matches and a box of cigarettes. The exhibits have been retained for evidential purposes to support ongoing investigations and prosecutions.
Police said the suspects have been arraigned before court and remanded in custody pending further investigations.
In a statement signed by the Bono Regional Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, the Command reiterated its commitment to ensuring a crime-free festive season. It warned that individuals who engage in criminal acts would be arrested and made to face the full rigours of the law.
The Police also urged residents to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by providing credible information that could assist in preventing crime and maintaining public safety across the region.
Authorities say similar intelligence-led operations will continue as part of broader efforts to safeguard communities and protect lives and property during and beyond the festive period.
