Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested a 19-year-old suspect in connection with a robbery in which a man was attacked with a machete and robbed of his mobile phone at Asabi, near Asokore Mampong.
According to a press statement signed by Superintendent Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Public Affairs Unit, Ashanti Region, the Asokore Mampong Night Patrol Team was on routine patrol in the early hours of Tuesday, July 21, when it received information that a male adult had been robbed and was lying unconscious near the Presbyterian Church at Asabi.
The team rushed to the scene, where the suspect, upon sighting the police, attempted to flee and hid in an uncompleted building.
He was pursued and arrested.
Police identified him as Ahmed Mustapha, 19.
A search on him led to the retrieval of the victim’s mobile phone and a machete, both of which have been retained as exhibits.
The statement said the victim sustained machete wounds to the forehead, neck and left hand, and was rushed to the KNUST Hospital, where he was admitted for treatment.
When police visited him at about 5:30am the same day, he had regained consciousness and was reported to be in stable condition, continuing to receive medical care under observation.
The suspect is currently in police custody assisting investigators.
