The Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) has successfully completed a two-week practical training programme for newly recruited caterers in the Volta, Oti and Bono regions.
The Programme is aimed at strengthening implementation and improving the quality of meals served to beneficiary school children.The training equipped caterers with practical skills on the effective utilisation of locally produced foodstuffs, in line with the Programme’s objective of promoting local agriculture and ensuring nutritious meals.
Participants were also trained in food hygiene and safety, nutrition, portion control, the use of handy measures for serving meals, and proper kitchen maintenance.
The capacity-building initiative forms part of the Programme’s broader strategy to improve service delivery, promote high standards of hygiene and nutrition, and support local economic development through the use of locally sourced food items.
GSFP acknowledged the invaluable support and collaboration of key stakeholders, including Women in Agricultural Development, the Ghana Education Service, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies, training facilitators and other partners, whose contributions were instrumental in the successful implementation of the training.
It wished “all our stakeholders and Ghanaians at large a Merry Christmas and prosperous Near Year”.
It expressed committment “to continuous capacity building and stakeholder engagement to ensure the provision of safe, nutritious and adequate meals for all beneficiary pupils nationwide”.
