Nigerian music star Peter Okoye of Psquare fame has attributed his youthful appearance and sustained energy to personal happiness, discipline and cutting off negative influences, insisting that ageing is often accelerated by stress rather than time.
In an interview, Peter dismissed speculation about expensive routines, joking that the secret was simply “water”, before expanding on a philosophy centred on self-awareness and fulfilment. He argued that remaining in unhappy relationships or unfulfilling jobs out of obligation or fear of public opinion creates emotional strain that eventually shows physically.
According to the singer, choosing peace over pressure has been central to his outlook for more than a decade. He said he deliberately distances himself from people and situations that bring negative energy, regardless of family ties, describing the decision as essential to staying focused and healthy.
Peter challenged cultural expectations that prioritise pleasing others over personal wellbeing, saying people would talk regardless of one’s choices. He recalled encounters with wealthy but visibly exhausted individuals to underline his point that money does not guarantee happiness or rest.
The performer said he remains physically active, rehearsing intensely and maintaining the same on-stage energy he had decades ago. He added that he does not follow strict diets, eats once daily and continues to dance and sing through rehearsals without feeling limited by age.
For Peter, happiness, purpose and self-prioritisation remain the foundations of longevity.
