Business executive Ibrahim Mahama has extended support to two disability groups in Accra, providing food supplies to ensure they were able to celebrate Christmas with dignity after facing acute shortages during the festive season.
Mahama, the chief executive of Engineers and Planners and the Justmoh Group, reached out to the Disabled Christian Fellowship International and the Accra Rehabilitation Center following reports that members were without food and basic essentials. The donation, presented through Engineers and Planners Company Limited, included 100 bags of rice, 20 cartons of corned beef, 20 cartons of mackerel and 20 cartons of cooking oil.
The supplies are considered critical for many persons with disabilities, who often struggle to afford food and household items, particularly during festive periods when costs rise. Advocates say the challenges faced by people with disabilities are frequently intensified during holidays, as social and economic barriers become more visible.
Mr. Sowa, a former president of the Amputee Football Federation of Africa, said such gestures help address the marginalisation and stereotyping that persons with disabilities often experience. He noted that the festive season can be especially difficult, as many lack the resources needed to participate fully in celebrations enjoyed by others. He expressed gratitude for the donation, describing it as a gesture that promotes inclusion and a sense of belonging.
Presenting the items on behalf of Mahama, his special aide, Rafiq Mahama, said the support reflects a broader commitment to ensuring vulnerable groups are not left behind during national celebrations. He said Christmas should be a time of sharing and community, adding that the donation was intended to allow beneficiaries to celebrate with their families and neighbours.
Recipients welcomed the support, saying it would ease their immediate needs and allow them to observe the season in comfort. The organisers said the gesture underscored the importance of solidarity and compassion, particularly during periods meant for togetherness and goodwill.
