Chief Executive Officer of Engineers & Planners Dr Ibrahim Mahama has promised the people of Damang an airport to be constructed within six months to help in movement to and fro Accra.
He disclosed that an application for permit for the project has already been filed.
“We have applied for Damang to have an airport and Damang within six months will have an airport such that we can fly to Accra easily from here,” Dr Mahama stated in an address during an official ceremony to takeover the Damang Mines.
He said this is going to be one of the numerous projects he will embark upon in the mining town.
“The plan I have for Damang is not a joke,” he indicated.
E&P won the bid to take over operations of the mine, formerly managed by Goldfields Ghana Limited, after scoring 93.15 percent in tendering evaluation.
The company will manage the mine under its subsidiary Damang Mine Ghana Limited.
The takeover was facilitated by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources under its agency the Minerals Commission.
Addressing the chiefs and people of Damang on Saturday, April 18, Dr Mahama also promised two hospitals as part of efforts to get the youth ready employment.
“In the next two years, we will be able to drive from here to Cape Coast on a concrete road or an asphalt road,” he further promised, clarifying that: “This is not political talk but this is real talk.”
