Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Victor Emmanuel Smith, has confirmed the arrest and detention of former Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) chief executive Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu in the United States.
In an official statement issued to media houses, the ambassador said Tamakloe-Attionu is currently being held at the Nevada Southern Detention Center in Pahrump, Nevada. According to the statement, she was arrested by United States Marshals on January 6, 2026, and has remained in custody since then.
Ambassador Smith disclosed that the arrest followed an extradition request submitted by Ghanaian authorities to the United States in July 2024. He said the former MASLOC boss was taken into custody to await court proceedings in line with the extradition process.
The confirmation brings clarity to reports surrounding Tamakloe-Attionu’s whereabouts after she left Ghana following her conviction in absentia over charges relating to the misappropriation of public funds during her tenure at MASLOC.
The embassy said it is monitoring developments closely and will continue to liaise with relevant US authorities as the legal process unfolds.
Tamakloe-Attionu is expected to appear before a US court as part of proceedings that will determine the next steps regarding her extradition to Ghana.
