The Bank of Ghana’s Second Deputy Governor, Mrs. Matilda Asante-Asiedu, has reaffirmed the central bank’s commitment to strengthening economic and financial journalism with the introduction of the Governor’s Economic and Financial Story of the Year Award.
Speaking at the inaugural Governor’s New Year Media Engagement on January 16, 2026, Mrs. Asante-Asiedu said the initiative is designed to recognise excellence in economic reporting while deepening public understanding of monetary and financial policies. The award will offer the winning journalist a fully sponsored trip to the IMF–World Bank Annual Meetings.
She underscored the critical role of the media in translating complex policy decisions into clear and accessible information for the public. “Here at the Bank of Ghana, we have a responsibility for monetary policy, but when it comes to communicating the outcomes of that policy, the tenets of that policy, we cannot do it alone. We need you, the media, to be able to do that,” she said.
Mrs. Asante-Asiedu noted that informed reporting helps build public confidence, supports accountability, and promotes sound economic decision-making among citizens and businesses.
The Bank of Ghana, she added, remains committed to transparency, partnership, and continuous engagement with the media as part of its broader mandate to advance economic stability and financial literacy.

The award forms part of the Bank’s wider efforts to encourage responsible, insightful journalism and strengthen collaboration with media professionals nationwide.
