President John Dramani Mahama will participate in the first Davos convening of the Accra Reset on Thursday, 22nd January, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting.

President Mahama chairs the Presidential Council of the Accra Reset, a Global South initiative aimed at strengthening sovereign capacity and reimagining international cooperation amid unprecedented global challenges.

Other council members attending include President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi of Egypt, President William Ruto of Kenya, and President Felix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Vice President Kashim Shettima of Nigeria and Prime Minister James Marape of Papua New Guinea will also participate.

The meeting will feature former heads of state forming the initiative’s Guardians Circle, including President Olusegun Obasanjo, Rt. Hon. Helen Clark, President Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, and President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf.

The Accra Reset was introduced at the 2025 UN General Assembly and endorsed at the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg. Thursday’s convening will launch priority programmes designed to address great-power rivalries, the collapse of global aid narratives, trade tensions, climate crises, cost-of-living pressures, pandemics, and regional conflicts.

President Mahama regards the initiative as complementary to his domestic reform agenda, the Resetting Ghana Agenda, emphasising that effective governance requires both national reforms and equitable international partnerships. He has consistently highlighted that sovereignty entails the ability to execute national visions while building strategic alliances across Africa and the Global South.

The Accra Reset, with Ghana as a founding member, underscores the country’s commitment to fostering cooperation that advances mutual interests in an increasingly complex global landscape.
