Dr Joshua Zaato has argued that former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia remains the New Patriotic Party’s strongest candidate to reclaim power in the 2028 general election, citing his competence and policy influence.
Speaking in defence of Dr Bawumia’s leadership credentials, Dr Zaato said the economist’s ideas continue to shape governance even under the current National Democratic Congress administration. He claimed that during periods of difficulty for the government, it has relied on policies and reforms associated with Dr Bawumia to stabilise the situation.
Dr Zaato said party supporters and the wider electorate would back Dr Bawumia on the basis of merit, experience and emotional maturity. He described the former vice president as a proven leader whose record in public service set him apart from other contenders within the NPP.
According to Zaato, Dr Bawumia’s policy-driven approach and demonstrated competence position him as the most credible option to lead the opposition party back to power. He expressed confidence that sustained public appreciation for Dr Bawumia’s ideas would translate into electoral success.
Dr Zaato said an NPP victory under Dr Bawumia’s leadership would usher in renewed national strength and stability, predicting that he would be sworn in as president in January 2029.
