Agri-Impact Ltd has signed a four-year agreement with PwC Ghana to strengthen the institutional capacity of consortium partners implementing the Sustainable Aquaculture for Women Advancement (SAWA) Program, an initiative of the Mastercard Foundation in partnership with Agri-Impact.

Signed on Monday, October 26 at Agri-Impact’s office, the agreement builds on three years of collaboration under the Harnessing Agricultural Productivity and Prosperity for Youth (HAPPY) Program, through which PwC supported Agri-Impact’s institutional development.

The partnership will help participating agribusiness firms strengthen their organisational systems, improve performance and scale their operations to create more dignified and fulfilling work opportunities for young women under the SAWA Program.

SAWA Program seeks to unlock 60,000 dignified and fulfilling work opportunities for young women aged 18 to 35, including young women with disabilities in Ghana’s aquaculture sector.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Agri-Impact’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. (h.c.) Daniel Fahene Acquaye, said the decision to extend institutional strengthening support to other consortium partners followed the benefits his organisation had gained from working with PwC.

He said the support had enhanced Agri-Impact’s visibility and capacity to manage large-scale agricultural and agribusiness projects in Ghana and the Caribbean to unlock more opportunities for the youth and was grateful to the Mastercard Foundation.

“We have seen the benefits and importance of institutional strengthening, especially for local and indigenous companies,” Dr. Acquaye said.

He explained that Agri-Impact had proposed to the Mastercard Foundation that similar support be extended to other private sector partners, noting that stronger businesses were better positioned to grow and create more employment opportunities for young people.

“The more we strengthen the private sector, the more opportunities we create for young people,” he said.

Dr. Acquaye emphasised that PwC’s role would be collaborative, helping participating firms build the capacity to expand and become more competitive rather than focusing on audits.

He expressed hope that the four-year engagement would produce stronger indigenous agribusiness brands with improved scale, quality, performance and resilience.

For his part, Partner at PwC Ghana, Hayfron Aboagye, said the partnership aligned with the firm’s purpose of building trust in society and helping to solve important problems.

He said PwC was committed to supporting indigenous agribusinesses to build on the growth already recorded in the sector and was grateful to the Mastercard Foundation for giving his firm the opportunity.

“We are excited to partner with Agri-Impact and the Mastercard Foundation for this great support. We believe that, at the end of the four-year journey, we will be seeing big brands coming out of this intervention,” Mr. Aboagye said.

Other members of the SAWA consortium are expected to sign their respective agreements in the coming days.

About the SAWA ProgramThe Sustainable Aquaculture for Women Advancement (SAWA) Program is a four-year initiative of the Mastercard Foundation in partnership with Agri-Impact Ltd, running from 2026 to 2030.

It aims to address systemic constraints in Ghana’s aquaculture sector while expanding inclusive economic opportunities across the tilapia and catfish value chains.

The program seeks to unlock 60,000 dignified and fulfilling work opportunities for young women aged 18 to 35, including 3,000 young women with disabilities.Agri-Impact leads implementation with Newage Agric Solutions Ltd, AgroKings Limited, the Fisheries Commission, CEL and TechnoServe.

Anchor partners Aglow, Afrigem Global and Naple Betta, alongside the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), provide additional support.

PwC serves as the program’s institutional strengthening partner.
