Delegates of the New Patriotic Party in Atiwa East constituency of the Eastern Region have affirmed the candidature of the incumbent Member of Parliament, Abena Osei Asare, as the party’s candidate for the December parliamentary election.

The decision is in line with the party’s guidelines for the conduct of its parliamentary primaries ahead of the 2020 general elections.

General Secretary, John Boadu, on June 8 outlined the party’s guidelines for the 2020 primaries, stating there shall be no elections in constituencies with unopposed candidates.

The unopposed candidates, per the guidelines, are only enjoined to address their delegates at a special gathering organized by the respective elections committee and the constituency and regional party.

In effect, it is this process that officially affirms the status of the “unopposed” aspiring candidates as the NPP’s parliamentary candidates in the respective constituencies.

It is on the back of that Ms Osei Asare, who is unopposed, was affirmed as the party’s parliamentary candidate by the delegates of the constituency at a special event held in the constituency under the supervision of the regional party.

Eastern Regional 1st Vice Chairman of the party, Alhaji Omar Bodinga, together with the Assistant Regional Secretary who represented the regional party, congratulated Ms Osei Asare on the feat.

Alhaji Bodinga said the affirmation was a testament of her good works in the constituency and beyond.

The Atiwa East District Chief Executive (DCE), Kwabena Panin Nkansah, who also spoke at the event, commended the MP for the excellent working relationship she has with his office and with the regional and constituency party.

Taking his turn, the Atiwa East Constituency Chairman, Albert Antwi, eulogized Ms Osei Asare for her continuous support to the party in the constituency, and assured her that the executives will always rally behind her to continue to deliver prosperity for the good people of Atiwa East.

For her part, Osei Asare, who doubles as the Deputy Minister for Finance, thanked the Atiwa East delegates and her constituents in general for reposing yet another confidence in her, and assured them of her unflinching commitment to vindicating that confidence by continuing with the numerous developmental projects she is undertaking in the constituency.

She also expressed a commitment to working to unite the party and to enhance the existing fine relationship she has with the party’s rank and file in the constituency.

The MP assured them of doing the needful in order to not only retain the parliamentary seat, but also maximize the votes for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the party’s presidential candidate.
