The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has agreed with the Ghana Police Service to arrest any persons who enters the voting area in Saturday’s presidential primaries with a mobile phone.
According to the party, such renegades will be arrested and prosecuted and not allowed to cast their ballots.
Speaking on Accra-based Citi FM on Thursday, January 29, a member of the National Elections Committee of the NPP, Isaac Boamah Nyarko, who is also the Member of Parliament for Effia Constituency, noted that much effort has been put into ensuring sanity at the voting centers.
“The police have been given strict instructions and when you bring a telephone and you are caught you will be arrested and prosecuted.”
The NPP goes to the polls on Saturday, January 31 to elect its 2028 Presidential Candidate.
Five aspirants including defeated 2024 Presidential Candidate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia are contesting for the position.
Allegations of vote buying have been levelled against some candidates with delegates said to take pictures of their ballots as evidence to claim more monies.
According to lawyer Boamah Nyarko, no foreing material will be entertained in the inner perimeter of each voting center.
