The Board of Directors of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), led by Board Chairman Hon. James Agalga (MP), conducted a working visit to key project sites, including the ongoing Hajj Village construction, the runway overlay, and the new head office at Kotoka International Airport (KIA).

During the tour of the Hajj Village, the Director of Projects, Engineering and Construction, Reverend Solomon Adjaso Abijah, briefed the Board on the progress of the multipurpose facility. The site, which is currently 55 percent complete, is expected to be finished by the end of 2026. The facility will feature a residential building, terminal, mosque, modern tennis court, Hajj offices, and a commercial area with shops, restaurants, an event centre, and recreational spaces, aimed at generating additional non-aeronautical revenue for GACL.
Rev. Abijah highlighted that the upgraded facility would provide a dignified and comfortable environment for pilgrims preparing for their journey to Saudi Arabia.

Hon. James Agalga commended the contractors for the progress made so far, emphasising that the project forms part of the President’s vision of facilitating safe and efficient travel for Ghanaian pilgrims. He assured that the Board would work closely with contractors to ensure the Hajj Village becomes operational by year-end.
The Board also inspected ongoing works on KIA’s runway overlay and the GACL head office building, projects managed by Amandi Holdings. Managing Director of GACL, Mrs. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, explained that the runway had not undergone major upgrades in nearly 30 years. The rehabilitation includes widening the runway from 60 to 75 metres, overlay works, and the installation of an LED Approach Guidance Lighting (ACL) system.
At the head office site, contractors assured the Board that the project is on schedule for completion by July 2027.
Mrs. Opare emphasised that these upgrades are part of GACL’s broader commitment to modernising airport infrastructure, improving operational efficiency, and enhancing passenger experience across Ghana’s aviation sector.
