Two Ghanaian soldiers are critically injured after two missiles struck the Ghanaian Battalion Headquarters of the United Nations Interim Force (UNIFIL) in Southern Lebanon.
This is seen as a fallout of the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict.
A statement from the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) on Friday, March 6 said the attack happened between 5:45pm and 5:52pm local time.
The Officer’s Mess facility at the base was also hit, according to GAF, and completely burnt down.
“The injured are receiving treatment at the Level One Medical Bunker and are currently stable while arrangements are underway for their evacuation to the UNIFIL Headquarters Referral Hospital,” the statement signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, the Acting Director General of Public Relations, said.
GAF assured the public to remain calm amid the fragile situation as the troops are said to be safe in underground bunkers.
Meanwhile, the government has lodged a complaint at the UN headquarters in New York over the incident.
The complaint urged the “parties involved in the conflict in UNIFIL to be mindful of their responsibilities regarding the safety of all peacekeepers in the theater”.
