Former Chief Executive of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid has officially declared his intention to contest the National Vice Chairman position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In a statement issued on Thursday, April 9, Dr Abdul-Hamid revealed that his decision follows persistent appeals from the party’s rank and file to leverage his “institutional memory and strategic insight” for the party’s future success.
Describing himself as a long-standing loyalist and scholar, the former Information Minister highlighted his deep roots within the party.
He revealed how as a founding member of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) branch of the NPP in 1992, he helped light the fire regarding the 1992 transition of the Danquah-Busia Club to the NPP.
He underscored his time as the first elected National Youth Organizer of the party, how he served as the Spokesperson for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for a decade, his unsuccessful bids for National Organizer (2001) and General Secretary (2005).
”I have been forged in the fire of battle. I have won some and lost some. I have the scars to show,” he stated.
The Islamic scholar emphasized that his bid is not driven by personal gain but by a desire to “give back” to the party.
He positioned himself as a strategic asset for the upcoming internal and national leadership challenges, promising to provide “intellectual firepower” to support whoever is elected as the National Chairman.
The statement concluded with a call for internal unity and re-organization, signaling that the battle for the party’s future begins with strengthening its core leadership.
”Together, we shall re-strategize, rebuild and re-organize and return this party to its rightful place in leadership. The battle to recover our nation begins from within. Victoria Ascerta!
