The Ghana Esports Federation (GESF) has announced plans to strengthen the regulation, governance and international competitiveness of Ghana’s esports industry following a high-level strategic meeting aimed at shaping the future of competitive gaming in the country.

The executive session brought together key institutional stakeholders to assess the current state of the sector and outline measures to build a safer, more structured and globally competitive esports ecosystem.

A major focus of the discussions was the finalisation of a forthcoming Esports Directive, which is expected to serve as the official regulatory framework for the industry. According to the Federation, the directive will establish operational guidelines and standardisation measures for stakeholders, game publishers, players and enthusiasts across the country.

The Federation said the framework is intended to provide clarity and direction for the industry while supporting sustainable growth and commercial opportunities.

Participants also reviewed mandatory safety and governance protocols designed to protect the welfare of esports athletes and improve operational standards within the sector.

The meeting examined strategies to strengthen the governance capacity of the Ghana Esports Federation, with an emphasis on transparency, accountability and long-term institutional sustainability.

Another key area of discussion centred on Ghana’s international representation in esports competitions. The executive committee reviewed plans for participation in upcoming global events and strategic partnerships, aimed at enhancing the country’s visibility and competitiveness on the international stage.

Officials indicated that details regarding Ghana’s participation roadmap and other strategic initiatives would be unveiled during the upcoming National Esports Summit.

The Federation also began preliminary planning for the summit, which is expected to bring together industry stakeholders, policymakers, investors and gaming enthusiasts. Organisers say the event will serve as a platform for policy discussions, industry development and investment opportunities within Ghana’s growing esports sector.

Through the initiatives outlined at the meeting, the Ghana Esports Federation reaffirmed its commitment to developing an inclusive, safe and professional esports environment that empowers local talent and positions Ghana as a leading player in the rapidly expanding global gaming industry.
