Black Stars Head Coach Carlos Queiroz has penned an emotional farewell message to Ghana, reflecting on his tenure with the national team and urging the country to build on the foundation laid during his time in charge.
In a heartfelt statement on Sunday, July 5, Queiroz began with a football philosophy that shaped his reign: “Football, like life, teaches us one timeless lesson: you either win or you learn.”
The Portuguese tactician said he leaves the role with mixed emotions, expressing pride in the team’s achievements while acknowledging there was more to be desired.
“I leave this journey with pride in what we achieved, but also with the healthy dissatisfaction of those who always wanted more,” he stated, adding that reaching a higher level “should never be the destination—it should be the beginning of even greater ambitions.”
Looking ahead, Queiroz emphasized that the growth of the Black Stars must extend beyond the touchline.
He called for stronger structures to nurture the country’s football talent, noting that success “must start off the field, by creating the best possible environment to prepare, protect and develop Ghana’s extraordinary football talent.”
The former Manchester United assistant and Portugal, Iran, Colombia, and Egypt coach extended his gratitude to Ghana’s football authorities, the players, and technical staff.
He thanked the President and the Ghana Football Association board for the “opportunity to serve the Ghana National Football Team,” describing it as “an honor and privilege.”
He also praised his players and staff for their “courage, commitment and unwavering dedication to the team.”
Addressing Ghanaian football fans, Queiroz acknowledged that the team’s campaign fell short of complete satisfaction but insisted the Black Stars had restored pride on the world stage.
“We cannot claim complete sporting satisfaction, but we can proudly say that we honoured the colours of Ghana and restored respect and credibility to the Black Stars on football’s greatest stage,” he wrote.
He closed his message with a note of optimism for the team’s future: “Thank you, Ghana. The journey starts now. To the future.”
