The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has announced the deployment of new, state-of-the-art security screening equipment at passenger screening checkpoints in Terminals 2 and 3 of the Kotoka International Airport, Accra.
In a public notice, GACL said the upgrade is designed to enhance aviation security screening while improving the overall passenger experience.
According to the notice, the new equipment brings several changes for travellers passing through the affected terminals.
Passengers will no longer need to remove laptops and other large electronic devices from their cabin baggage during screening.
They may also proceed through screening with their shoes and belts on, unless otherwise required during security profiling.
Liquids, Aerosols and Gels (LAGs) can now remain in cabin baggage as separate screening of these items may not be required.
GACL noted, however, that security regulations still prohibit LAGs exceeding 100ml in volume per container.
The notice also pointed to faster processing times, with a new Automatic Tray Return System set to quickly return trays to passengers for repacking of divested items.
GACL said migration onto the new system will be carried out progressively, in phases, alongside existing screening procedures and equipment already in use at the airport.
The company has appealed for the cooperation of all passengers and stakeholders as it begins operations with the new equipment in the coming days.
