One Ghanaian evacuee from South Africa has passed away upon arrival at the Accra International Airport, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced.
In a statement dated August 14, 2026, the Ministry said the death occurred at 6:55pm.
According to the statement, the Ministry is undertaking the formalities of informing the family of the deceased, and has arranged for the deposit of the remains at the Police Hospital for autopsy.
The deceased was one of 50 Ghanaians who arrived at 5:50pm on Friday, aboard an Air Tanzania flight from South Africa, as part of government’s evacuation exercise.
Reports by other passengers indicated that the deceased’s health condition began to deteriorate about 30 minutes before touchdown in Accra.
A medical emergency team on standby at the airport attended to him upon arrival, but he regrettably passed away and was confirmed dead by doctors at 6:55pm after all attempts to save him failed.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it will provide an update on the sad development after formal engagement with the bereaved family.
