The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has announced that the Tema-Achimota transmission tower is set to be replaced on Sunday, August 23.
This follows the successful completion of the initial phase of repair works on the Ashaiman section of the 161kV Tema–Achimota transmission line.
A team of engineers from the state power transmitter undertook the preliminary works on Sunday, August 16, 2026.
Power was immediately restored to all affected customers, according to a press statement issued by the Corporate Communications Section of GRIDCo on Sunday.
The company expressed gratitude to the general public for their patience, understanding, and cooperation during the emergency works.
However, the major work—which involves the full replacement of the affected transmission tower following a welding explosion in July—is scheduled to take place on Sunday.
To minimize inconvenience, GRIDCo stated that it is collaborating closely with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to provide advance information to communities and customers who may experience power outages during the upcoming exercise.
“In collaboration with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), we will provide prior information to customers and communities in areas that may be affected by the planned works, including any associated power supply interruptions,” the statement noted.
GRIDCo assured electricity consumers that its engineers will continue working diligently to finish the tower replacement in order to restore the complete integrity, reliability, and resilience of the transmission line.
