The Accra Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service has arrested former boxer Michael Ayittey Okai, popularly known as Ayitey Powers, for threatening to kill the Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA).
The death threat was captured in a video making rounds on social media.
The Command, as a result, moved in swiftly to arrest the former boxer, who is assisting with investigations.
“The Accra Regional Police Command wishes to assure the public that investigations are ongoing to establish circumstances surrounding the alleged threat and to take appropriate action in accordance with the law,” a press release signed by the Head of Public Relations of the Command, Chief Superintendent Juliana Obeng, said.
It urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information about the matter while investigations continue.
