Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has filed a suit at an Accra High Court, seeking GH¢15 million in compensation against the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, and Multimedia Group.
According to the writ of summons, Sammy Gyamfi appeared on ‘Newsfile’ on the Joy News channel on Saturday, August 22 “and elected on his own to pour series of defamation on the plaintiff without any just cause or provocation”.
It stated that Sammy Gyamfi was only asked a question on his outfit but veered into “unscathing attack” against Mr Afenyo-Markin, describing him as an extortionist.
It said the plaintiff was hit more about the accusation after Mr Gyamfi dared him to challenge him, castigating supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for being unaware of the alleged activities of the Effutu Member of Parliament (MP).
The Minority Leader finds the accusations as defamatory, insisting that he has not engaged the GoldBod CEO in any conduct of the nature alleged.
He is, therefore, seeking inter alia an order directing a retraction and apology on the same channel and programme.
