The Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has surrendered himself to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) following an arrest warrant issued against him by the Accra High Court.
In a news release dated October 1, 2026, EOCO said Mr. Baffour Awuah, Senior Partner of Sarkodie, Baffour Awuah and Partners, voluntarily presented himself at its premises at about 10:00am to assist investigators with ongoing investigations.
The Office said his appearance followed several months of efforts to secure his attendance in connection with allegations of criminal conspiracy, financial loss to SIC Savings and Loans, money laundering, tax-related offences and other matters under investigation.
EOCO said it then began the applicable investigative and operational procedures.
Mr. Baffour Awuah was subsequently placed under arrest and is cooperating with investigators as the process proceeds.
The High Court issued the warrant on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, authorising EOCO to arrest the MP.
The court also granted the Office authority to search for and seize documents that may be relevant to its investigation.
EOCO’s lawyers told the court that its officers had exhausted reasonable means of securing the legislator’s voluntary attendance, and that it feared relevant documents could be concealed, altered or destroyed.
The court directed EOCO to execute the arrest through the Speaker of Parliament.
The warrant came a week after EOCO officers attempted to arrest the MP at the Accra High Court on September 23, leading to a chaotic confrontation.
EOCO later said that attempt was part of an investigation and followed two invitations issued to him in February 2026.
Mr. Baffour Awuah has disputed that account, saying the February invitation was addressed to him as Senior Partner of his law firm, and that a representative subsequently cooperated with investigators.
According to the MP, after he referred EOCO’s invitations to the Clerk to Parliament, a representative of his former law firm appeared before investigators on March 4, March 18 and April 30.
He has said the investigation concerns SIC Life Savings and Loans Company, a client of his former law firm.
The Deputy Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Justice Srem Sai, said in a September 30 statement that the warrant followed what he described as the MP’s refusal to honour an EOCO investigative invitation since February 2026.
EOCO assured the public that its investigations will progress professionally, independently and in accordance with due process, and that all persons involved will be afforded their rights under the Constitution and applicable laws.
It urged the public to allow the investigative and judicial processes to proceed without speculation or premature conclusions about the culpability of any individual.
The Office said it will provide further information when it is appropriate and legally permissible to do so.
