More than 7,000 delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are gathering at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi today, Saturday, October 3, 2026, to elect a new national executive.
The congress is being held in two parts, with delegates first considering proposed amendments to portions of the party’s constitution before voting for national officers.
The positions up for election are National Chairperson, Vice Chairpersons, General Secretary, National Treasurer, National Organiser, National Women’s Organiser, National Youth Organiser and National Nasara Organiser, while the National Communications Director position is unopposed.
The top three Vice Chairperson candidates will take the first, second and third vice chairperson slots, bringing the total number of executive positions to 11.
Outgoing National Chairman Stephen Ayesu Ntim is not seeking re-election, resigning from the position in 2025 due to ill-health.
The ballot positions were assigned on September 9, 2026, at the party’s headquarters in Asylum Down, Accra, following the vetting of aspirants.

The National Organiser race lost a contender when National Youth Organiser Salam Mustapha withdrew, citing “circumstances beyond my control” in a letter to the National Officers’ Elections Committee.
Gordon Asare Bediako also dropped out of the Communications Director race to endorse Mr Aboagye.
Delegates will also be asked to vote on a proposed amendment under which candidates would contest specific Vice Chairperson positions, rather than ranking first to third by votes received, along with the appointment of three additional Vice Chairpersons who would not face elections.
The Chairman of the National Officers’ Elections Committee, Frederick Opare-Ansah, said preparations for the conference, including accommodation, transportation, feeding and security, were in place.
The new executive will lead the party into the 2028 general elections.
